With all you've written in this thread you start to sound like you want Nintendo to Blow up, so that they wake up and realize the mistakes they've commited and send Iwata to pineapple himself, and that be Maybe that'd be great if it could be garanteed that they could make a comback for the next gen if the Wii U is proven a failure.
Even if they had no games to release the past year, there's no saying there wont be games to release during the next year, at least not yet. Last thing I heard was Nintendo was expanding its development studios so they could develop more games at a time. LEt's wait for E3.
There sure are people buying the PS4 or even the XBone for the reasons you mention, but most do it because it is the thing to the moment in gaming and I say that because other than its aspects there's nothing that makes those 2 consoles next gen as of yet. (Aspect don't count or else PC would be reigning it all). When the next Halo comes out on Xbone and... IDK uncharted 4? on PS4, then thats when both consoles will prolly take off from the current gen.
I mentioned watchdogs because it was advertised as a new gen game which is no better than the lastest previous gen games, whereas Mario Kart in my opinion (might get hate from this) is at least a step ahead. What I am trying to get at is that, until the PS4 and XBone start to get true next gen games the Wii U still has chance for a comeback. They really need 3rd party support, but they need to prove first there's a market for 3rd parties in their console, so they need to sell the console and that brings me back to my first point, Mario Kart is a great first step, say the next is SMB, put at least 3 more tittles as big for the gamers to look up to in the next year and then you might give the Wii U the chance to compete again.

They bought the consoles early in the lifetime for the exact same reason you buy any console early in it's lifetime: you expect a lot of games for it during it's 5-10 year lifespan and want to get there early.
