Smash 4 wii u certainly isn't going to sell more than brawl did. Wii U would first have to double it's userbase and then get a 100% sellthrough rate to get close. Only pokemon on the 3DS has managed to just edge out brawls numbers, but no other title has gotten close yet on the handheld, and it's unlikely to perform as well as pokemon on it's home turf. And adding the two together is counting two different games, but may well get close in total to brawls numbers.
The fact is wii u is still undertracking the dreamcast by over 4 million when you align dates (that number being from the stats nintendo gave late march/early april, obviously prior to mario kart), which is why reaching gamecube numbers is at best a fever dream.
