And yes, while it may seem like a visual glitch, the game actually registers as you having either 0 Tokens or Gold until you relog. I had the misfortune of dying in a King's Road dungeon and the game said I had no tokens left.
In the case of gold, try selling something. It happened to me once and selling something brought all of my money back.
