The biggest issue for me is just tradeability. I would never sac one of my best items (even if they are just for buffs) for a stat increase since I personally consider that of less value than the ability to move the item between characters. I don't think it's difficult at all to make, I just think it's a waste.
And, yeah, they look awesome, which is why I keep a set around just for anvil fodder.
Yeah they're completely untradeable after i sell them (never, haha). The seals are short, but i just keep extending. I don't mind untradeability because you can be strong without these items; i don't boss on any other character that would need these. If i did i would not want to pay 3/4k per switch. The faster dojo times in lieu of tyrant gloves, which are faaar more expensive to cube legendary (at least before the cube update in last patch) than buying a legendary emp on wholesale, as well as the weapon speed since i'm a cannoneer, was worth it in my opinion.
Also one point i forgot: the empress item you buy doesn't have to be of your own class, allowing you to pick the cheapest option (ie. bowman). Point doesn't apply if you're a mage.
