That's completely understandeable
Playing something like crystal maiden can be a pain as a new player i imagine, she's essentially the slowest hero in the game not counting heroes that have yet to be ported.
Some advice i would like to give would be to start a lobby of your own with bots(fill empty slots with bots) and cheats enabled, this way you can level up your hero to 25 instantly and try out a hero to see what they can do, or give yourself a lot of gold to try out items to get a feel of things. (-lvlup 25 for level 25 for example or -gold 999999 for gold)
I'd especially recommend doing this with a hero like Invoker, Lone Druid, Earth spirit and Meepo to see what they can do and what to expect when playing against them since i would probably consider them the heroes the most different from anything you will ever encounter in LoL.
Not to mention sometimes it's fun to try playing something without any restrictions (-wtp is a mode you can enable with cheats where there are no cooldowns and things cost zero mana) playing a hero like storm spirit with infinite mana can be amusing.
