Dude. It wasn't even a sand rasengan. He just used the chakra of the sand beast so it resembles his design but it doesn't actually use sand...

And what's up with naruto forgetting the name of the tailed beast that we've known for literally the longest time out of all the beasts? Only time i've really felt his stupidity.

Naruto only really interacted with shukaku during the chunin exams arc. I dont recall him dealing too much with gaara after that or mentioning shukaku.
