1. Salvage as much unusable gear as possible such as blues and whites. Keep yellow+ gear that other classes can use, usually gear with +main stat/+vit. If there's +all resist and/or +crit on the gear as well, it's usually a keeper.
2. Socket a Ruby into your helmet if you can, for faster leveling.
3. Haedrig is amazing for affordable at-level gear. Always sort through "Highest usable"
4. Unless you truly have the build and gear for it, always have a Resource generating skill.
5. Balance for offensive and defensive. Never build full glass cannon unless you're geared enough to utterly ignore taking damage.
Also as a heads up: You're going to have a hard time with Demon Hunter later on at Master-Torment+ difficulty. Damage is really high, but at the same time you'll have to a lot of hit and runs since you're pretty fragile. However, from what I hear Demon Hunter gets a lot easier with some choice Legendaries/sets. Just letting you now that if you expect Demon Hunter to faceroll content, other classes can do it easier. If you enjoy the challenge, keep at it.
*I leveled a Demon Hunter myself to 60, so I'm well aware how squishy they can be when you crank up the difficulty beyond Expert.
