Also, it's rare for something so seemingly meaningless, as you probably view it, could produce such a community and give meaning to non-sentient beings in ways one wouldn't have ever imagined. It's even better considering Pokemon Red/Blue has been around for over 15 years and this one idea, a new way of playing the same old game, has created something that the whole internet couldn't simply ignore. This will pave the way for something in the future. What? I don't know, but it's going to be interesting for sure.
I don't find the concept itself meaningless in any way. I originally saw this as a really intriguing idea.
What I find meaningless is what the community has turned it into. It's just another pointless war, just there's no casualties except emotions (Could snowball, I guess). Don't we have enough of those in the real world?
I guess if nothing else, we should realize that absolutely nothing will stop human beings from fighting over the most absolutely pointless pomegranate. But that's part of why I think the concept is meaningful, but just the result and how people have reacted to it, is the part that is meaningless.
