It doesn't, actually, because -ci and -cci are pronounced the same way in Italian (compare with Medici, Portici, and pici). Regardless, my original comment was light-hearted teasing to a friend, and it's easy to see why someone would pronounce it in a more "English" way.

I'm startin to think these horse doovers would be better without the juh-lah-pen-o's.
