Welp, I am yet another victim to this ridiculous error. I was only having the farm issue since some time in the late summer/fall. Then it jumped right to phase 3-a, ON Christmas DURING the 3x event. After spending money on various exp buffs and pots... needless to say, I was livid. I was also on the WG map at the time. I managed to sign back on the next morning, without having to change a thing. However, all it took was a couple of cc's, and bam Error 38 again.
I didn't find out about the removing link skill thing until 3 days later. I removed them all and logged on successfully. The next day I put them all back on, carefully, once at a time logging on each time to see if any particular one was the culprit. Nope, seemed everything was fine. THEN, some time after that, I got the error entering the CS. That seemed to go away on it's on after a few days, though.
A week-ish later, d/c again while changing channel, error 38. So this time I try to debug the problem, and remove my link skills one by one, after each time trying to log onto my char. I went through every available link, in order, starting with cannon (except for mihile), and when I finally got to kanna and removed that one, I could log in! The next day I re-added all but kanna and everything was fine. Maybe kanna's was the problem?!
Nope! Here I am today at phase 3-b. :[ Removed my skills and still no dice. The ticket I originally sent about this back on Christmas finally got followed up with a canned, "re-install maple and video card drivers" response. Uhhh, no, I don't think so. It's NOT a hardware/software issue as I've tried to log on multiple pc's. I managed to chat with a GM today, and I pretty much got "we are aware of this issue, please continue to check the website, have a nice day".
I also tried the fix with the screen resolution and holding the window down, didn't seem to work. I either seemed to grab too early and freeze the window till I let go, or grabbed to late and it poofed away. I never used 800x600 anyway. I also tried other combinations of things, i.e. all resolutions in windowed & full screen while logging, still error 38 every time.
Oddly, my initial d/c & error wasn't while cc'ing, I was just solo grinding at WG. Every other time has come after a cc though. Yes I have expanded inventories- 1 is maxed (I can't remember which), and the rest are close to maxed.
Funny to mention... I had submitted a separate ticket about the CS when that one happened. Lo and behold, a GM was quick to respond and offer help, asking if they could log on my account to check something! Figures. Not being able spend money on them was more of a priority.
While having this GM's attention, I said "look, you need to go in NOW and try log onto my main as I am having the problem again". They responded with, "We've already tried this and couldn't log on".... ugh.
