you can also go the other direction and see what they did to meta knight. Meta Knight was derptacular with 5 jumps and ridiculous edgeguarding and combo kills. Meta Knight was revamped enough that he himself feels like a totally different character(no more derptastic Dair, heavier weight, less jumps, and surprisingly is still tourney viable)
other lower end character changes was like making PK bomb/Freeze MUCH more viable in combat for the Earthbound duo, which is neither like melee nor brawl, Sonic being able to chain attacks better(with his pretty boring moveset in the first place) etc
