That's not true at all. They've skipped the regular weekly maintenances these past couple weeks due to having Unscheduled Maintenances earlier in the week to fix bugs/glitches. If you look here you can even see that we haven't had anything "scheduled" since the last patch.
The only time they have to take all the games down at the same time is when they're updating the clock, so like daylight savings and things like that.
