Well it's that given the hackers more or less had a whole weekends worth of time to screw with the economy, it'd be very hard for Nexon to track down and find all the hackers/duped items. Therefore, it'd be far easier, while annoying, to just rollback. Kind of like why pick each flea off a dog when you can just bathe the whole dog in flea-killing soap water.

There's two differences (not necessarily the main differences, just listing two). Maplestory still has lots of players, and they actually advertise the game. DFO never truly got fat with a huge ass player base where everyone and their mom played DFO, and had to live off of itself until it was too weak to carry on. The success of a game usually correlates with how well known it is to someone who never touched the game. Another difference, Maplestory is too big a cashcow to simply pull the plug. It's like taking priority over caring for your MVP even when you side player(s) are in far worse condition than he/she is.
