There's a difference between your suggestion of a rollback and maple points, and actually fixing the problem (which the rollback would also be a part of). The maple points are a placebo; it makes the users feel a little bit happy while doing nothing to repair the damage.

I'm just trying to say the exploit hasn't been public that long.. If they don't rollback they are going to have to solve the issue by deleting the items thus fucking someone over in another way. I'm sure the majority of the population would rather lose a few hours over being hellbanned or falsely banned for a few weeks. Unless they don't plan on punishing the abusers then is that really going to be better off?
