First of all, there are no clones in brawl. Literally no one is cloned. His point didn't even have anything to do with the word, nor should a counter argument.
Second of all, even in melee, clones are completely different characters. Trying to tell anyone who knows anything about the game that fox and falco, cpt falcon and ganon, or link and young link are the same in anything other than visual terms will only result in them laughing in your face.
Clones are only justified as a useable term if you're arguing about the time, money available, or laziness of the developers to make melee higher quality.
