Spoiler
I'm pretty sure the only reason Ravah had to carry the elements for Wan was because the lion turtles felt that he wouldn't be able to handle all the power at once, not because Ravah HAD to give it to him or anything like that. At least, that's how I interpreted it.
That being said, I don't think a Dark Avatar concept is viable, at least not without being full of bullsh'it. The Lion Turtles are not in the Spirit World at all, and we've only ever seen one in the present. One that definitely wouldn't be willing to give Vaatu/Unalaq the other bending powers. The only reason they gave them to Wan was because of Ravah, so a Dark Avatar wouldn't really work unless he just had all the bending powers for no reason (IE: full of bullsh'it).
That also being said, if they were to do it, the only thing that argues against Felicitate's problem with the concept is the fundamental weakness of the Avatar State. If the Avatar dies in the Avatar State, the Avatar ceases to exist. The same would obviously be true for a Dark Avatar. As such, if they were to do such a plot, they could easily end it with an Avatar State battle. Considering Unalaq would be the first Dark Avatar, and Korra has 10,000+ years of Avatars behind her in her Avatar State, it really wouldn't be fair to Unalaq. Of course, they would make it that way because that's what all shows do, but in reality Korra would kick his ass because the Avatar State is the collection of ALL the Avatar's past lives combined into one.
I'll be honest. If they DO do something like that, I would enjoy it simply because it would be very reminiscent of the Series Finale of The Last Airbender, which was abso-fu'cking-lutely amazing. Although they haven't really built enough side characters and plots for it to be as good. The best part about the finale was that EVERYTHING was awesome. Every single part. Toph, Sokka, Aang, Katara, Zuko, EVERYONE had amazing plotlines for the finale that just worked so well, something that really couldn't happen at the moment.
Chances are high that the finale of the season will be a massive cliffhanger, because this time they know they have more episodes to go (unlike Book 1), and as a result everyone will be in bad situations that suck. Much like the end of Season 2 in The Last Airbender, where you think that the Avatar State is gone, the Avatar Cycle is broken, and the Fire Nation has won the war. I hate cliffhangers.
