Other methods are to just keep walking around with it, feed it vitamins, let it hold a soothe bell. Don't let it faint in battle or feed it bitter items either. The happiness will keep increasing gradually. Unless there's like certain moves you want it to learn or don't want to miss, leveling it adds a bit too.
