Well, I have 5 Hearts (max friendship / friends forever! yay) on my Haxorus from Pokemon-amie, and there a couple things I've observed:
- Your Pokemon gets boosted EXP
- Your Pokemon can sometimes dodge an attack that would have hit them (dodged a 100% hit attack)
- Your Pokemon sometimes remains with 1 HP if they get hit by something that would have killed it.
- Your Pokemon sometimes cures its own status.
- Your Pokemon sometimes withstands a Super Effective move (not sure about this but my Haxorus did something to live against a Dazzling Gleam that should have killed it)
- Your Pokemon sometimes criticals (guessing more often) and it shows a heart when it does
- The battle text changes with your Pokemon's thoughts (X is thinking about you, X remembers something, X waits for orders, etc)
- If you wipe a Pokemon, you'll praise them after doing so (in battle text)
- If you switch out, you'll praise them.
- Before you start a battle, your Pokemon will do a special animation that it otherwise wouldn't (different for each I'm assuming... my Azumarill hops around while my Haxorus looks backwards for a second)
- When your Pokemon is about to faint in battle, it lets you know it's dying and suffering :v
That said, the amie thing makes them so strong that, along with the punching bag thing, they become gods that will never die.
