I'm just gonna have to disagree until the end of time. Because to be it seems to be more of a case of oversimplifing both the Pokemon and Digimon designs.
Plus your point on calling something "digimon-y" because it looks "overelaborate" and looks like it could talk doesn't even match with most if not all Digimon designs.
