thing" gets rather irritating when you keep doing it repeatedly. Proper debate teaches you to cherrypick your stronger points and work those, because not only sound smarter and more convincing that way, but also so you don't lose your audience or run out of time on the little things. Plus, debating a point gets you more fans than nitpicking and arguing. That's just how it goes.
