If it comes to it I could make a hidden userlist, hide the result spreadsheet, and PM people passwords to use instead of SP forum username. I'm not sure how big a problem it is; looking at the form responses it's only happened about 3 times, all of which are easy for me to delete.
I would combine a whitelist with a daily (approximate) check of the other submissions where I just run through the farms and manually add a password if they're correct; there are only about 5-6 regular named contributors and they do 75% of the updates (other 25% are blank so I don't know how many individuals)
I could authorize other people to edit the spreadsheet and delete trolls but so far it's infrequent enough I don't see a need, unless people want them gone quicker.
I'll talk to some of my web dev friends about how hard it'd be to replicate this functionality on a site I have more control over. I picked google forms/spreadsheets cause I know how to use it, but it has been having some downsides.
