Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
Locked Wrote:The mobile market is pomegranate. With many competitors and an open market you have a bunch of people competing for short entertainment bursts with an addicting pay-to-win model (a la Candy Crush). Do you honestly believe that the mobile market is well enough to dwell into with the Android having an open source market that anyone can enter and competitors nearing up at every chance they get? It's not some miracle market where people will automatically make millions of dollars because of brand name, there are multiple people competing there while the Console market is taken up by a majority of three corporations. But you propose for them to go into a moderated market where they have no controls of the profit, where over 7 million people have effectively rooted their devices, and where at least 10% of the iOS phones are jailbroken (couldn't find newer data but I'll be surprised if it didn't increase in 4 years) hindering their sales of products. The mobile market also makes little to no profit. The most active game series on the market that I know of, Angry Birds, with over 1.7 billion downloads has only made approximately 195 million dollars in sales this year but only 71 million in profit yet Nintendo could easily make much more money than that through a successful medium to deliver games. Hint: Nintendo made 73m in profit despite the pomegranatety sales of the Wii U and has about $14,309,400,000 in actual revenue. But no man, I'm surely joking. The mobile market is a fucking money bank, for sure.

Words, words everywhere.

Unless you somehow got the idea I think Nintendo should go be a mobile developer (HAHAHAHAHAHA, devices without buttons are worthless for gaming), I have no idea what you're getting at. Please, point out to me exactly where I said anything about the money to be made? I said the market, as in the consumers.
Unless you think the 15m gap in consumers nintendo has lost between gens just vaporized? Because it's either that, or they went to the mobile/tablet space. (And that's not even starting to look at the PSP->Vita market drop).

That, and, it doesn't matter whether we like it or not, a significant amount of 3rd party support has been releasing things on mobile that would have previously been 3DS games.

Besides that, it's blatantly obvious why they're making a 3ds version: The 3DS version of Smash bros will outsell the current number of wii us sold worldwide. (3.61million as of the start of july)
