the thing is that i did reinstall though, just through steam, as it's more or less a direct download. i'm pretty sure the issue is windows 8's compatibility with the latest (or one of the latest) patches, i haven't been on maplestory on my desktop for the past few weeks. the game runs fine on my laptop (windows vista).
i'm going to try downloading the direct download of v138 (which was posted on the site and is still available) and patch up, see if that makes a difference.
