Marios are more 1v1 and hammer based, Luigis are more boots. In the Dream world there are Luiginary attacks instead, which only use Mario's BP (so he needs a higher BP). The Luiginary attacks use montion controls and tons of luigis and are harder to pull of IMO.

Should've rephrased: By Bros. Attacks, I meant where they used their jump and hammer to deal combos and had attacks added on as you mastered them. Only the first game had this, while the others had them in the form of objects (with PiT actually being items). I like the sound of that, though.
