In fact, Hard Mode is never an option until we've done everything in Normal. It's more fun that way to me. Rushing to Hard Mode to me is just asking for a headache.I guess I'm too casual.
Back when I still played, I've tried to join several different servers, even ones that had a rule of No Hard Mode, and all of them had people causing Hard Mode within 48 hours of them starting up. I'm not sure if it was "griefing" attempts, or just plain ignorance, but it got to the point where I was sick of playing online unless it was only with friends.
It's honestly one of the reasons Minecraft will be forever superior to Terraria for me in multiplayer play. Minecraft has portals and special "dimensions" for harder difficulty play, where Terraria has permanent Hard Mode that you cannot disable without essentially cheating, and that's provided the server admin wants that to happen. If you're not the server admin, mind as well quit the server if you don't want Hard Mode regardless of how much effort you put into it before then.
Honestly the entire concept of "You turned on Hard Mode and can NEVER, EVER turn it off in this world without cheating," in the first place is stupid to me. The game is half building sandbox and in my experience it's ridiculously retarded trying to build in Hard Mode because of how many masses of monsters spawn.
