Pacific Rim (Now out!)

I wonder how that would work. They could easily do a prequel, but how would they pull off a sequel?

"Because on the way to the finished screenplay," remembers del Toro, "there were entire angles and ideas that we chopped off because they were too much."

The sequel would explore the alien forces behind the 'kaiju' (giant monsters) who invade Earth through the 'antiverse.' “They’re a race of blind consumers grabbing planets, consuming them, and moving to the next,” says del Toro. “The idea is to explore a little bit of that. I won’t spoil it, but I don’t think we’ll repeat a single beat from the first movie.”

del Toro says the sequel's screenplay would take at least two years to develop, so don't expect to feel Pacific Rim fatigue.
