Not that I doubt you...it just...seems odd that they would do that.

Only the word of people who've played through the entire Japanese release.

Still, I think this boxart says something about it (hence why the purple/white pikmin are separated into that little warning box saying something like "they're challenge mode only!"), but you'd need to grab someone who can actually read japanese to check that.
