Galaxy set the bar so freaking high that things can pretty well go like they did with Mario Sunshine after Mario 64. t was by no means a bad game but it didn't have the impact 64 had.
By 3d mario standards, sunshine was a bad game. All the levels had the same theme and everything was very similar.
I think you're probably right though. How does anyone even begin to try to top Super Mario Galaxy 1/2? Mario galaxy 3 probably won't have the same impact nor sell the wii u as much as a brand new spin on 3d mario would, and if we end up with Super Mario Land U that plays like the 3DS game, we'll be at the point where we know Nintendo is just pushing 3D mario out to fill a tickbox, which is the last thing we or nintendo need.
Quote:As for SSB, I just can't imagine what can Namco Bandai bring to the formula while keeping the game 2D, maybe Capcom with its vast experience on 2D platformers and fiighters would have been a better choice. But well, as long as it is balanced, fluid and has as much content as brawl had I don't think it will disappoint... oh and new characters (Megaman please).
On that note: Sakurai confirmed SSBU is being shown a the direct!

At least, that's what I'm told he tweeted.
Honestly, what are we going to get from a new smash bros? It's getting awfully close to another paint by numbers nintendo series. There were fairly big changes from n64->Melee, but the differences from melee->brawl were all relatively minor. The only major change is they need to make a single player that doesn't suck.
I mean, seriously, you get free reign with all of nintendos properties, and the subspace emissary was all that sakurai could come up with? Whoever greenlighted the incredibly sterile enemy designs instead of a range of enemies from all of nintendos history should be ashamed.
So anyone making guesses on which new characters will be added to smash bros?
There aren't too many franchises left that Nintendo has without a rep, but
Isaac (Golden sun), He got in as an assist trophy last time, about time the series gets a playable rep.
Shulk (Xenoblade), Nintendo might be trying to turn this xenoblade into a franchise with the upcoming X game, so it would make sense that they add someone to smash bros
Dillion (The Rolling western). Of all of the new original eShop 3DS games nintendo has put out, Dillion is basically perfect for smash bros. Spinning attacks, dynamite/bombs/his other elemental items, claw punches, digging attacks, Russ for his recovery move, it's all there already! (But then nintendo logic so he might just get skipped over completely...)
Maybe Lloyd (Tales of Symphonia, doubling with an announcement that the recently announced rerelease of ToS and Tos
OTNW is coming to Wii U, would be great news that). Probably getting a namco character seeing as they're helping develop it.
