Whilst having an allegorical story is nice and all, the presentation of it lacks impact and the 'wow' factor that some of the mainstream anime have. Implementing it into an action-based game such as Maple is just going to see a massive flop. If you're familiar with the show, then I can understand that it will be appealing to you. However, for shows like SAO, the average Mapler does not need to have watched it to appreciate the potential content, such as NX faces/hairs/weapons. This is where a good chunk of the revenue will come from for Nexon.
In terms of raw content I'd have no doubt that a longer-running franchise will be superior. But how much of it is feasible to implement? How much of it will actually make a positive impact on the game? How much of the content will the player base will actually be receptive to? And most importantly, how much of the content will Nexon be able to capitalise on to justify the costs of development?
