Just basic computing, so no gaming. I may do lighter photo/video editing, but nothing that would demand a Retina display (or intensive specs).

All that being said, I'm looking to get a computer that lasts 4-5 years, so if Haswell processors are the next big micro architecture perhaps it's best to get them?

The microarchitectural changes typically don't matter as much as the process changes. If you're not doing anything particularly intensive, you're not going to see much value in waiting.
