Obviously, sarcasm works much better if you agree with its message, not so much if you don't.
I sort of agree with the premise, actually; they won't be able to stop them from shooting in most cases simply by having a gun of their own. I'm more of the mind that, if someone shoots me, I really, really want to shoot them back. Doesn't change the fact that I got shot, but at least I feel slightly better about it because the person that hurt me also has to suffer. Yes, I am a very petty person, and I don't have a better reason than that.
