Then they sat down to try and figure out how it was done (and how to block it), and also how much damage was done (and how to undo it). Until they've figured both those things out, they can't guess how long it will take, so the only update they can give is "we're still working on it" - which goes without saying.
I would honestly accept an update of "We're still working on it" because it tells me that they are indeed still working on it, and not just sitting around twiddling their thumbs trying to figure out how to go about resolving everything. Even an extremely exaggerated estimation would be acceptable. Maybe even further confirmation of there not being a rollback, because, in my opinion, when the game went down, a rollback was still entirely a possibility.
