Girasol Wrote:So, just out of curiosity - what did you guys not like about the KMS Crimsonwood PQ? We didn't have any plans to bring it over, but I'd like to hear specifically what you didn't like about it...and if there was anything you DID like about it. Thanks!
I didn't like how it was completely "out of place", and definitely didn't give the feeling which the old Masteria gave.
More importantly, I just didn't like the fact that KMS recycled all those map objects to make "their" Masteria and "their" Crimsonwood PQ. They have all the (legal) rights to do it, but really, why ruining so much such a masterpiece? I think that only those who appreciated it fully enough like me and other veterans here could ever understand the pain to - at first - see it ruined with the Alien Invasion and Destroyed NLC releases and - then - to see it laughed at and stomped on with this pitiful attempt to make a "new" area for KMS, which could've been outdone by many amateur map makers on private servers.
PLEASE @Girasol, listen to my and many others' prayer: if you can in any way influence the development team, PLEASE convince them to take back the whole old Masteria, fully (quests, etc. included). Obviously small improvements (such as increasing the HP of some bosses) are allowed, but the whole Aliens idea was terrible, along with that of "revamping" (=destroying) Masteria's Phantom Forest and the Valley of Heroes.
Now, I was going to write some more opinions on this matter, but I gladly see that other people already have done it for me.
Quickjumper7 Wrote:Because I don't know the storyline in KMS's version, I can't compare those. I do have to say that I love the original Masteria storyline though.
What I dislike about KMS's Masteria are almost all the same as what I dislike about GMS's alien revamp:
1. Map Simplicity
2. Monster Simplicity
3. Hub/Linear Map Connection
The original Masteria was amazingly creative. There were enormous hilly maps, mountainous jump quests, and dangerous cliffs that you could fall from to your death. There were hidden caves, a maze, and map intersections where you could choose your path to explore. The monsters did new and rare things; some flew, some had incredible damage, some were anchored in place. And the monsters were all placed in equally fitting maps that matched their function. Typhons were placed in maps where the player could be pushed off, and Bigfoot was placed in the maze where unsuspecting travelers would come across it.
Now, combine all of that creative game play with an epic storyline... and no wonder Masteria has so many fans!
Then, in comes KMS... To see them alter Masteria like this, to destroy every amount of originality that ever existed in it, even beyond the desecration that GMS committed with the alien revamp... it hurts to watch.
I completely agree with all this guy said. Please read carefully the bolded parts, as they are the most important arguments about why the Alien Invasion, Destroyed NLC and Masteria Revamp were overall terrible in my opinion.
You know, the great Sheloman Byrd (known as "NxProse"), who created most of the old Masteria, was just a GENIUS. He was able to write those adventurous and epic storylines that guy talked about, to design those interesting NPCs and amazingly / complexly structured maps, containing epic-looking, exciting new mobs. He did most by himself, since he was both a writer, a designer and had a huge creativity.
I don't even know how to say it. The Masteria content he provided GMS with was NEVER disappointing. He gave Masteria that intense feeling of mystery and adventure which no other area in the game could reproduce well enough. Not such an intense one, anyways.
I find it a shame it got ruined like that. WHY did Nexon America's team have to destroy Masteria in such a horrible way? Why did they have to ruin such a masterpiece by making plain boring maps (which anyone with a map-making software could develop) and replace the exciting old complex ones, including the deletion of an exciting and adventurous jump quest, which was a creative way to reach an epic place such as Crimsonwood Keep?
Destroyed NLC is depressing enough as is, so I had hoped for a REALLY GOOD storyline and overall a much higher content quality. Instead, maps were made in a very bad - and, apparently, rushed - way (map elements were re-used, the placing of which gave a completely out of place and uncreative look to them, etc.). Quests were TERRIBLE and completely not following Sheloman's first project: the NPCs' "personalities" and ways of being, coming from the previous ones created with the amazing writing skills of NxProse, were changed in worse, making the whole Masteria lose its seriousness and epicness. For example, the first quest "Major of Disaster" of Destroyed NLC starts with Icebyrd Slimm telling you that the "town is going bananas" and other random unfunny jokes which only 5 year old kids would laugh at, right after a major earthquake destroying the town HE had built with no little trouble, according to previous quest text from that NPC. Then, the rest of the quests don't really fit his personality. But, afterall, Sheloman made Icebyrd Slimm look like him, and he wrote his text as well. After this Aliens update, it became way too obvious that he has left the company.
In any case, the whole Alien Invasion idea was completely uncalled for (especially after the relatively "recent" Unwelcome Visitor Event), and didn't follow the way Prose wanted Masteria to expand. You could've released an expansion to Bigger Ben, Vineland, Yetinx, Affluent Tower, Versal.. but no. You decided to destroy New Leaf City and ruin the design of an amazing piece of art...

Takebacker Wrote:3) General lack of respect for what a LOT of people consider to be one of the best content updates the game has seen in it's history, for more than just the actual content. The hype generated from the words "masteria update" back in the day inspired tons of people to actually stay up all night for updates and information...now it's almost always responded to with the masteria troll panda.
Exactly what I think. It's simply disrespectful to NxProse and his work.
Now, what I'm asking for is: try to somehow bring back that amazing developer to your company or just make a contract or something to cooperate with him on Masteria (even just for ideas). He seems to really be the only person who could ever save that content, which, as Takebacker and many others have said, was one of the best updates of the entire game.
If you can't do that, nor can follow Prose's way of structuring Masteria, just bring back the old one and don't touch it again. It was perfect as it was, really.
