I'll just add my own thought even if it has been said before.
SaptaZapta is accurate about the Big Bang update being the real culprit. If Masteria is ever going to be brought back it must be in a state comparable to before Big Bang.
The KMS version is not bad, as far as the standard they've set with the latest updates go mind you, and some of the mini game quests are very nice.
However, the big problem with KMS updates lately is that they make everything flat, fast and easy when most of us veterans miss a MapleStory which was based more on exploring and adventuring to get the best EXP instead of being handheld, led and in essence auto lvled. Dumbed down is perhaps the best term.
It is always either that or bosses that are hard to the point of idiocy which, require you to be the correct class with staggering amounts of funding or forever be left out.
When the original NLC and Crimsonwood came it gave unprecedented levels of exploration and lore that put everything Maple had up to that point to shame. Even today nothing has come close, including the more fleshed out Black Mage story.
When you guys added the Alien invasion and took out everything except the CWK PQ you basically made a huge proclamation that you went ahead and sacrificed all that the old stood for on the altar of the new streamlined MS. I am on SaptaZaptas line that Masteria already died with BB, but it felt like a huge slap in the face that you took it out instead of restoring it to former glory. Alien Invasion could have easily been an addition instead of a final bane.
I'll admit I had some thought that it might be for the best anyway, since by taking it out at least we did not have to get constantly reminded of what could have been. Then comes the KMS version, ripping open all those badly healed cuts in our hearts. Cruel.
Finally, The iTCG system and the other crafting options we had with Masteria made the game much more interesting than the infernal coinshops we get in every single event and update these days. One of my greatest MS moments was when I worked on crafting 24 Balanced Fury throwing stars from materials I had hunted mostly by myself.
Yeah... I think that if you want to restore Masteria, you have to listen at the people, and recover what was truly original. Training off hunting a single boss that spawned in a lot of places was amazing, a boss that was unique in the way of BigFoot, that was worth the exp to hunt, interesting maps, with shortcuts, that you had to memorize to navigate (Even though an update to the map could be done, as a suggestion, with map navigations if you manage to unlock it, like markers on portals to find them faster), fun maps with slopes and pits with flying enemies, a PQ consisting on team work, even on the bosses (perfect chance to add chaos mode for them), an amazing quest line, and even maps that weren't all that useful at first sight, but led to possible future lore, or just inviting to imagination... (Yes, the grave map. I remember even afking there sometimes, and one year, the fake Headless Horseman spawned in there... The ones dropping cakes, remember? Hah, I miss those now, too).
Ah, and the mansion should have a few tweaks in there too. Recovering the original (NX RESTRICTED AT THE TIME COUGH COUGH) event questline would be the perfect addition to it.
I think that sums it up pretty well, I remember going there just to try to find a headless horseman or bigfoot AFTER big bang. Not even for the exp. It was FUN. And since there still was a quest for its head, people still hunted it sometimes, adding to the challenge. If people does something because they find it fun over exp, it's the right way COMPLETELY. Make it actually worth the exp too, and people will LOVE it.
