I can understand wanting to quit after doing everything the game has to offer. The problem with Maple is there isn't (and probably won't ever be) a decent end game to participate in. Just a few 'hot' bosses that get replaced every few patches. Climbing to the top can be enjoyable (the journey is certainly part of the game that I enjoy) but once you are there I don't see much that you can really do.
As for the whole huge gap issue, this has been known for ages and ages. Ever since potential came out the gap got this huge, so I imagine that isn't his real reason but moreso a rant.
