I'm pretty sure that it would be a temporal feeling, if anything, and power creep would start biting your mind again after you spend a little too much on a character.

I suspect the extent of power creep has ruined 2nd job even for unfunded characters. I mean, I played a statless DB to level 70 and I was 1hkoing the regular mobs despite having 4 base luk+dex. I think I had about 1/3 of an unfunded char's total luk (rings, witch hat, etc.).

I mean, I played when 3rd job was an accomplishment. Now it's a couple hours.
