ugh, i hate going into massively long posts ._.
what i'm shooting for with final fantasy is that even though they do the damsel in distress thing, it's not always the woman, i'd think kain is worse off than rosa, with him being brainwashed and all. five has everyone helpless one way or another and.. -SPOILER- the aerith of this game is a male character -END SPOILER- 7 kills one female character, but all the others are more reliable than the main character for good part of the story (from what i've seen from LP's at least, haven't beaten it)
dissidia is one of my favorite FF games, and features the only female as a DiD, however, due to the main character being everyone, it also shows her growth and learning how to reject kefka's brainwashing. enter duodecim, where the rest of the cast is pretty much led by lightning.
and honestly, i REALLY hate long arguments, so i'll just leave these two here:
