32bit and 64 bit are two different things. There isn't a way to "lower" down to 32bit when it is programmed to use 64bit processes.
32bit is defined as: 32-bit integers, memory addresses, or other data units are those that are at most 32 bits (4 octets) wide.
64 is defined as: 64-bit integers, memory addresses, or other data units are those that are at most 64 bits (8 octets) wide.
It's just a rocky transition right now because the 32bit standard is slowly becoming outdated. (alot of people still have 32bit computers, and a majority of programs are still 32bit - like Maplestory) With 32bit, we're limited to only 3.5 gigs of ram and 2 terabytes of harddrive space. Emulation or compatibility mode can only do so much. An example of this is the XBOX360. You know that not all games for the original xbox work since they both use completely different architectures of programming.
anyways, I downgraded the operating system to windows xp sp3 32bit and I have no problems with any of my programs now.
Vista is a buggy OS in itself, and even after the addition of sp1, it still is. I don't think I'll ever go back to it.
The only thing you would need Vista for that you couldn't do in XP would probably be the viewing of HD content, that's because of the copy protections set by the movie industry.
