It does give a cube fragment.
And you get to keep the pants if you complete the quest while having them equipped. No idea why anyone would like to keep those, though, except for HB.
EDIT: actually, don't try to do that. You won't be able to drop Tot's Trial Bottom and it will be permanently stuck in your inventory.
Already sent a ticket about it. I hope they don't ban me because of that
