Not everyone has access to that, or feels it necessary to obtain such protection until it actually happens, legal or not, this would be the case. To be in a world where we have to carry hidden blades like assassin creed multiplayer to make sure bad things don't happen to us, is not only a gross exageration of your paranoia, but completely unnecessary. Yes bad things happen in life, but guns don't offer protection but fear of retiliation which in my opinion, leads to even more paranoia and thinner ice.
I don't disagree, I am extremely paranoid and view every single person I meet as a potential threat, including a lot of my own family members. I do disagree with the last line though; it's actually the opposite. If a criminal thinks someone is carrying a gun, there is a HUGE chance they will just give up before they even commit the crime. Why do you think they specifically target areas with no guns, like schools and movie theatres? They know nobody can stop them, there.

It's impossible to just have one clear solution to this issue.
While I'm at it, keep in mind that the victims aren't always female, either...nor are the rapists always male.
Why do you think I carry one?
