The Black Mage speaks during this cutscene I believe and he says the following lines:
You have an interesting talent.
Of course not. You stumbled into my consciousness by accident.
Come to me. Eternal life, infinite knowledge Whatever you wish, I have it for you.
So this possibly could be one of these Half-dreams? Silmiar to Evan's starting Dream, it is a dream, but they TALK in telepathy, or in facts, to each other in some way.
A great talent... points to another important character. And this proves one thing...
The Black Mage is still sealed, but he is concious. Maybe he wants to trick that person into joining the Commanders, so he could be unsealed. That means that the Black Mage could still make new commanders.
If this is a Half-dream. Otherwise, it's just some Nightmare.
