Just a sort of PSA for people here:
If you are running Windows 7 32 bit, try switching to 64 bit and see if it helps at all. Recently a friend of mine had terrible, horrid lag that made the game unplayable since tempest started. After some research he decided to see if Windows 64 helped, lo and behold his lag was completely gone and now plays fine.
IDK if this will fix all problems, I doubt it will, but give it a try if you are able.
