I don't see this working out unless nexon steps up their game and separates the rankings themselves. I also don't understand why people need a statue of liberty to point out something that was done a long time ago, if memories aren't enough or you're afraid of getting amnesia you can just take a screenshot of it while it's up and put it as a wallpaper to remind yourself of the fun you had however many years ago because the only person who really cares about that achievement is the one who is up on that rank.
Thank you for making a good point in your latter sentence. I've seen so many comparisons to artists past, scientists and other such comparisons but I think those are all wrong because by and far achieving level 200 is something personal and only you know the complete story of how you feel, which is a sentiment that could never be captured by any biographer, artist or musician. See what I'm getting at?
Let's assume Nexon actually does what some players want them to do and even separates the rankings. Then what? Would you, the pre-BB veteran invite your new friends to see your ranking on the page and say "And it only took me 2 whole years to do it!"? Would you, the post-250 cap player look at the rankings and think "Wow, people used to be capped at level 200 and it's impressive!"? Would we, the ones that actually remember how tough the journey was to even get to level 120 in the past sit around virtual campfires talking about the drinks we took to keep ourselves awake and pass on the tale to the new generations of Maplers? Would you even have any reason to visit the page more than ten times a year given that you remembered your rank perfectly fine last time and you're not going senile any time soon?
You can talk all you want about records, achievements and bragging rights but that's a hollow victory unless you can accurately convey exactly what it meant to be level 200 in the past and even then you wouldn't need to re-visit it so many times that a company would spare bandwidth for that which you hold more dear than them. I would think it's your memories that are more vivid and that accurately captures the meaning, the sentiment and pride of achieving what others thought was ridiculous and impossible back in the day, so why cheapen that and insist that it's stupid if Nexon doesn't care? You don't even know if their staff actively maintains characters since the game was made so this falls back to my question of your target audience for these rankings so as stupid as it is (Because I agree it's stupid, even if I do not share the same passion for it) Nexon does not share your feelings on why this matters, hence to say that they should do something about it is futile.
