I think there is no purpose to leveling because I'm not the type to merchant like no tomorrow or spend hundreds of dollars for the equipment needed to pull my weight in high level boss runs. 6-7 years ago, I endured the grind because I believed MapleStory was getting somewhere. After all this time, we hardly have any high level content that can be enjoyed by every player. You can't be enthusiastic about a means to an end when the end is empty. Maybe that will change somewhere down the line but until that happens, I can't justify spending time doing any sort of grinding.
Things change and things become obsolete. When the next set of Pokemon games come out, for example, I won't feel cheated. I enjoyed my time with the 5th gen, and I will have fun building off of what I already established (assuming compatibility between the 5th and the 6th gen). If I cared about MS anymore, I'd do the same. I can't fathom for the life of me why many people are under the impression that a level cap increase will erase the hard work of accomplished Maplers. If you hit 200, then that's that. You've done it. The trip there, and the accomplishment itself are engraved in your memory. You even have the screenshots and/or videos to prove it, and as others have suggested, there might even be a separate ranking. If you feel like you're being stripped of your accomplishments, then it's your fault for having that kind of an irrational mindset.
