My point is that they didn't released an entire new game for a fanbase they haven't really kept in mind, as GameFreak has showed by removing fan favorites like the battle frontier or the safari. Also, you got to notice that Bioware did it to a HUGE fan uproar, and in Pokemon case the fanbase is still in a "Everything went better than expected" stage. Something like a Rainbow version seems a little farfetche'd for them to create. Possible, but unlikely.
The part about gamefreak removing the frontier and the safari, I don't quite get. The frontier was replaced by the tower ultimately, correct? I always assumed they (GF) were of the mindset to have some things be region specific canonically, so the lack of the frontier in other games made sense for me. Same goes for the safari.
The thing with the fanbase is who the fanbase actually is. Pokemon is and always will be targeted to children, who are easily swayed away from any serious action by giving them something new to distract themselves with. ME's fanbase is by and large an older audience, and if there's anything older people are good at it's holding grudges. (older people in this example is anyone of working/collegiate age, or roughly thereabouts)
But that's all off topic. It's better to just wait and see what happens. I will say I wish people'd give up on the whole "I want a [pre]evolution for X," and X is something that doesnt "need" it.. but that's a personal bias. (glares at lickilicky and tangrowth)
