As for the rings, I thought post-entry prototyping still affected the rings, even if they didn't count towards powering up the battlefield. Didn't the trolls use that as the explanation for why they didn't prototype their sprites more than once?

Like I said, prototypings don't affect anything if they were done -inside- the medium. Only outside, which none of the Alpha kids could do.
