Either you accept it as fantasy and take it that falling into magical lava isn't necessarily instant death, or you want to take it as realistic, in which case EVERYONE in that room would have died near instantly from the heat and fumes.

Real lava has temperatures >700C. You're pretty much fucked if your body temperature goes above 40C~45C. and everyone in that room was within a couple of meters of the lava. If it was real, they all had seconds to live, the guy casting the spell included.

I guess the only option we have is accepting it as fantasy or as a complete asspull unless that magical lava isn't actually lava which is an asspull in itself.
