My mother is Christian and my father is Jewish. We celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah, some sunday's I would go to church with my mom, some saturday's I would go to Synagogue with my grandma. It was weird. I don't fully understand either religion since I never really took the time to learn it. I guess I just believe what I want.
This past week we had a death on my father's side of the family. I went to the funeral (not my first jewish funeral) and I had to ask alot of questions because I didn't understand what was going on. Maybe I never learned these things because of my parent's having separate religions. Anyways, after the funeral there was Shiva (7 days of mourning). We had a service at my cousin's house the evening of the funeral where a Rabbi came in and did a prayer service and spoke all in hebrew. It was weird to hear everyone speaking it and I knew nothing.
Makes me want to learn more and indulge myself in my dad's culture. I just believe what I want I guess. I mean, like the poster said Where did this god come from? How do people know these things actually happened? How do you know we aren't from monkeys? I seriously need a religion class in college. It seems like when I try to have a religion talk with my friends, they get all defensive and start to act stupid.
