You can play with 3 other people on MH3U (3 3DS users and you the Wii U owner), So yeah it's possible and I think it'll be the case for Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS but from what nintendo has shown, they are going to use the Pad as a second type of controller for other type of game play in the same game, an example of this is the metroid game for Nintendo Land, also nintendo has blocked some of the Wii U resources (like they did with 3DS at first, some people say it's a 25% of power). So maybe you could use it to connect more pads.
Edit: And I think the best game for 2 Pads is pokemon, I'd like a game like pokemon Stadium 1/2, for Wii U.
