Idk if he feels like he never got closure with her or if he still loves her and regrets not being there to protect her/Kakashi not protecting her. If all of this crap happened because he never got to tell her he loved her, then that's a bullshit reason for taking over the world with genjutsu.
I do agree though that we need to wait for more information, like usual.
